Can the Robo Rocker rock more than just child safety seats?
You bet! Our versatile Robo Rocker isn't just for infant car seats. It's also perfect for traditional Scandinavian wooden infant rocking chairs, and even for the popular Baby-Bjorn™ bouncer. JB has personally modified several rocking chairs to work with it too. It's all about keeping things moving!
How safe is the Robo Rocker?
Safety is our top priority. We rigorously test and re-test the Robo Rocker to ensure it remains a secure choice for your little ones. Our recommendation? Use it with commonly available, safety-tested infant seats while you are with your child. Petey, our trusty Robo Rocker, has a flawless record in child safety and we intend to keep it that way. …but Petey is not a substitute for good-old-fashioned parenting…
Does the Robo Rocker offer remote monitoring?
Indeed, it does. Petey, the brain of the Robo Rocker, is internet-savvy and connects to our Cloud Monitor at 35engineering. Rest assured, we respect your privacy – no HIPAA data is collected or stored. Our focus is solely on ensuring Petey operates smoothly for your baby’s comfort.
What should I consider when using the Robo Rocker with child safety devices?
Remember, Petey is only as safe as the device you secure your baby in. All standard precautions and warnings that apply to child safety seats and infant car seats are equally important when using the Robo Rocker.
What about risks like Positional Asphyxia?
We're aware of the concerns. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (2019 - Jeffrey D. Colvin, MD, JD) extensive research on infant sitting devices, including baby rockers and child safety seats, inspired the creation of the Robo Rocker. Our design is informed by the AAP's findings and additional comprehensive research. Our goal? To keep your baby safe and gently in motion, minimizing the risks associated with stationary child seats.
I’m really concerned about what I hear and read about Safety. Where can I go to learn more and ensure that my precious treasure is as safe as possible?
Research indicates that while baby seats and rockers can help soothe and put infants to sleep, their use requires careful consideration regarding safety, especially concerning the risk of positional asphyxia and other hazards when these devices are used for sleep or left unsupervised.
Safety Concerns with Stationary Infant Sitting Devices: A key concern with baby swings, seats, and car seats is their association with sleep-related infant deaths, including SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and suffocation. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends against using these devices for routine sleep. An important factor is the sleep position of the baby; for instance, there's a risk of the baby rolling over and blocking their airway, leading to silent suffocation in a matter of seconds.
Statistics on SIDS and Infant Sitting Devices: A 10-year long study indicated that 3.0% of all SIDS cases were linked to baby swings and seats, with car seats involved in up to two-thirds of all SIDS cases related to sitting and rocking devices. This statistic underscores the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and monitoring the use of these devices. While 2% of an already very small number may not sound like much: it is certainly worth noting and definitely worth taking care of! The Robo Rocker has been design to eliminate this possibility as much as possible… we can’t help with the other 98% of SIDS cases out there, but if we can get a Robo Rocker on every Infant Car Seat… then we should be able to eliminate 90% of these deaths, according to research! As the famous line goes: “No Baby Left Behind!” If we have anything to do about it!
Risks of Using Car Seats Out of Cars: A U.S. study highlighted that most infant deaths in car safety seats occurred when the seats were used as napping spots instead of for transportation. It emphasized that while car seats are crucial for baby safety in cars, they should not be used as substitutes for cribs or bassinets. The study reviewed data on 11,779 infant sleep-related deaths from 2004-2014, noting that car safety seats accounted for nearly two-thirds of these deaths when used as sitting devices outside their intended purpose.
High-Profile Recalls Due to Safety Risks: There have been significant recalls in the baby seat industry due to safety concerns. For example, Kids II recalled all its rocking sleepers in 2019 after reports of infant fatalities occurred when infants rolled from their back to their stomach while unrestrained or under other circumstances. This recall affected approximately 694,000 units, highlighting the potential dangers of using such devices without proper precautions and supervision.
These findings emphasize the necessity for vigilance and adherence to safety recommendations when using baby seats and rockers. While these devices can be helpful in soothing infants, their use requires constant supervision, proper restraints, and adherence to manufacturer guidelines to ensure the safety of the child.
